The future of communications is ……….
When asked this question, communication professionals identified three trends for the future of our field.
1️⃣ The future of communications is about rebuilding trust and fighting disinformation!
Several respondents said that the future of communications will require more new and creative ways for getting each message across to audiences.
And that the future of communications will require increased efforts to combat disinformation.
Audiences will gravitate towards credible communications and credible managers / leaders. With the communication professional at the heart of this process. Using old and new tools and their deep understanding of society, issues and people.
2️⃣ Working from home will require comms to harness tech!
Several respondents said that working from home and new technology is forcing the workforce culture to evolve. And that communications will be at the center of the shift, as the practice’s competencies become necessary in other business functions.
This may well result in a closer blend between marketing and communications with a focus on building and maintaining relationships with employees and customers.
3️⃣ Embracing tech and remote work will require comms to protect culture!
Engaging a hybrid workforce and creating a positive culture for a remote workforce is a huge challenge. And one that can be met if communicators are adaptive to new channels and tools. If they respond to feedback and are steadfast on clarity, conciseness and creativity.
💪 While I certainly don’t have a crystal ball, I have no doubt the future of communications remains bright and the challenges we face continue to evolve. Which is a good thing as it keeps us on our toes. And with a combination on both our soft skills and hard skills our profession will continue to add value today and way way way..... into the future!
