How to make the most of a small social media team
It’s not unusual in smaller organisations, that there is one person responsible for social media. Or, that the responsibilities are scattered across a few individuals who have other roles in addition to social media.
But just because there’s double hatting going on, doesn’t mean you can’t produce great results and impact. Here are five steps to optimise your social media strategy in a small team.
👩💻Get the right inputs
If you’ve got a small team, then you need to ensure you check in with the right people to help your social media efforts. This can include tapping into the marketing team to guide the tone and context of any posts or campaigns you run.
👨💻Get the channels right
For most organisations, your content is spread across multiple channels, tailored to your stakeholder interests. What works well is to identify those in your organisation that are familiar with certain channels and leverage their interest and expertise to focus on that channel. It’s time to find that TikTok superstar!
👩💻Add some flourish
In addition to identifying channel experts, check within the organisation if people have side interests or hobbies that could help your social media e.g. amateur photographers, graphic design, and filmmaking. These skills can bring your content to life. The key here is to know the strengths of the individuals and work together as a team.
👨💻External partnerships matter
In addition to collaborating internally, for many organisations it helps to have external influencers to amplify your message. Collaborating with external influencers can be a challenge, so best to assign this to someone in the team. Identify the influencers that fit your team’s goals and business objectives.
👩💻Build alignment
When you’re in a small team, you’re likely to get roped into multiple tasks at once, creating the need for an efficient and streamlined process. It is important that the team members have parameters and goals in place to ensure everyone stays aligned, on track, and can measure success.
