Leadership communication strategies

What are the biggest challenges you face when it comes to leadership communication strategies?

Recent research finds three key obstacles. Which I’m sure many communication professionals will find familiar.

Firstly, is actually getting access to senior leaders in the first place. Hard to provide advice if you can’t directly engage the leader in question.

Secondly, is working with uncharismatic executives.

And third, getting leaders to use social media.

The recent survey highlights a general lack of coordination and alignment between senior executives and communications teams.

💡What can be done about it?

Getting access to leaders in the first place can be difficult. Proving your value and why being looped in early is critical to earning and keeping your place at the table.

Helping leaders to be better communicators is also crucial. Such as media training on how to deliver a message that their stakeholders will find engaging. And if the leader doesn’t come across well, even after training and practice? Then it might be time to consider another messenger.

And finally, empowering executives to communicate using their own voice, armed of course with key messaging and phrases to draw from, can really empower leaders to engage authentically.

🙌 All this applies to both internal and external communications.
